A superintendent can recommend expulsion, but only the Board of Education can expel your child.
Before your child can be expelled from school, a hearing before the Board of Education must be held. The hearing must provide appropriate due process and should allow you the opportunity to understand the reason for your child’s expulsion, call witnesses on your child’s behalf, or cross-examine the school’s witnesses.
You may contact an attorney who can file a request with the court to reverse an expulsion. A student can also ask to be readmitted to school by sending a written request along with letters of support to the Board of Education.
During the entire time your child is expelled or out of school, an alternative education must still be provided to them.
